Sherry Martin is an Assistant Professor jointed appointed to the Department of Government and the Program in Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She received her doctorate in 2002 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Martin is interested in mass participation in politics, public opinion, identity politics, and gender and politics in Japan and the United States. Her work on gender and political participation has appeared in the ,em>Social Science Japan Journal, and the Journal of Women, Politics and Policy. Her co-edited book, Democratic Reform in Japan: Assessing the Impact (Lynne Rienner Publishers 2008), was released last year. Her current book project examines how Japanese women’s practices of learning and knowledge production in study and hobby groups influence patterns of engagement with the political process.

The courses she teaches include Feminist Methodology, Gender and Politics, Comparative Political Participation, and Introduction to Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
